While we would commend Denon for the Envaya DSB200, this wireless Bluetooth portable device has not in any way disappointed for a device of its size and form. Denon aren’t newbies to wireless speaker production, and has been producing hi-fi and home audio equipment since the 1970s, it was much more recently, that they began manufacturing headphones.
It was of course only a matter of time before they introduced their own product(s) into the portable wireless Bluetooth speakers market, which they did recently and honestly, their products didn’t disappoint. It has instead gathered quite a reputation for itself.
The Denon Envaya DSB200 is their most recent portable wireless speaker, released in mid-2014 and is targeted at keen wireless Bluetooth speaker users, who know what it takes to make a good wireless Bluetooth speaker and would be missing to make a bad one.
Priced the same range as the Bose SoundLink Mini II and having comparable features to the SoundLink 3, the Envaya DSB200is certainly an intriguing device, one that offers quality sound output, very nice design and good value for your money. If you’re budgeting to buy a wireless Bluetooth speaker and you’re not sure whether Denon’s Envaya would make a great buy for you, then consider going through our review of the product.

After laying hands on the Envaya DSB200BKEM, all we got in the box was less than we expected really, and we already felt this one was going to be one of those overrated devices with an inflated price tag. The most awkward inclusion was the various swappable front grille clothing in different colours, but the same shape. The adapters are also included and the box isn’t overly heavy; even though the speaker is fairly large.
The DSB200 is a device measuring roughly 2 inches x 5 inches x 10 inches (h/w/d). It is also reasonably heavy, weighing in at 2.6 pounds. Most of the functionality buttons like the power button, the volume increase and decrease button, the Bluetooth pairing button, the sound-off button and the auxiliary button.
Unlike other wireless Bluetooth devices, the speaker has really rounded edges and one might start having second thoughts about the common “Dance-and-Fall-Off” feature when one begins to use it, especially, when it’s playing a maximum volumes but Denon has a solution – The speaker has a back support to keep it place and it also allows the speaker to tilt a little upwards, thereby covering more area of the room more effectively. Squeezing the rear end of the device makes it pop out.
The DSB200BK speaker comes in a number of colours including black, which the colour we saw it in the most. It is also available in white and grey. The colours of the grill inserts might differ from the colour of the main body. It is available in Gray, Indigo, Orange and Pink. The additional grille covers allows you to switch the metal grille, which unclips from beneath, and you can choose from any of the colours that came with the speaker.

Sound Quality
The Envaya produces much more bass than most other Bluetooth speakers its size, price range and even some wireless Bluetooth speakers. Two major criticisms that often come into play when assessing many portable Bluetooth speakers are non-existence bass and too thinned out treble.
Both of which aren’t issues for the Envaya. The speaker effortlessly delivers a solid sense of weight and depth on almost every song reeling out through it and the bass output doesn’t disgustingly outweigh every other sound. The more you spend with the Envaya, the more you feel the clarity and distinctness in the sound output quality, which a plus to Denon for a carefully delivering on sound balance and supressing unnecessary kick-backs.
Battery Life
The Envaya takes about two and half hours to reach full charge takes around 10 hours to run out of juice. There’s a tracking light on top of the speaker to help you know just how much battery you have left.
Connectivity
Press down the Bluetooth pairing button on top of the device and it automatically goes into pairing mode. The Envaya remembers up to 8 devices, which is a plus to its ease-of-use, especially since you don’t want to repeatedly go through the ritual of pairing every time you need to use it. We tested with a Samsung S7 and it took around 3 – 5 seconds for the S7 to scan find and connect to the Envaya as a nearby Bluetooth device.
The Denon is aptX compatible too, so one can take advantage of higher-quality Bluetooth streams from compatible smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the HTC M8 One.
Pricing
For what it’s worth $$$ – $$$ price range isn’t bad at all for the functions and features of the Envaya. It delivers better sound quality, balance and filter as much as many other wireless Bluetooth speakers twice its price.
