It is generally believed that those toppers which are made using memory foam, last just as long as the beds that made out of the very same material. They cannot be further from the truth. Unfortunately, the life span of the mattress and the mattress toppers are a lot different.
It isn’t good to use the same mattress or mattress toppers when the quality, of the same has deteriorated. So the biggest question that needs to be answered is, when should you replace the topper? The following tips should help you in figuring out when to replace the topper of your mattress.

Toppers are almost always used to be laid over an existing mattress. If the mattress which is present underneath it is sagging or is worn out, then the topper will simply follow suit. The quality of the memory foam topper to conform is a great quality; however, that is the worst one as well, in case you have a bad mattress. It is only a matter of time that the topper will conform exactly to the shape of the underlying mattress and all the bumps which troubled you before will trouble you again. With such a mattress, you may have to change the topper a lot more frequently, than is required.
Actual weight
If you are overweight, then your body is adding a lot of pressure on the topper. This in turn makes the topper give way, a lot faster than it would otherwise. Additional weight that is put on the topper makes the cells crumble a lot faster, than they would have, if a person with an average weight uses it. If you have any better choices than what you are probably buying right now, make sure you opt for the same, especially when you or anyone using the product is on the plus side.
Thickness
The thickness of the topper varies from 1 inch to 5 inches, and even higher in some cases. When the cells on the top crumble, those underneath take over for them, and continue to provide support to the user. Those that have a thickness of just 1 or 2 inches, tend to collapse a lot faster, than those that are thicker, which is an easy thing to understand. This is largely because there isn’t any more memory foam, available at the base, in order to provide support to the user.
Thicker the topper, longer the life spans. Once you begin feeling uncomfortable, or think that the comfort which it once provided isn’t present anymore, then it is time for you think about buying the new mattress topper.
If you are of average weight, have bought a topper of thickness of 3 inches or higher, have a firm mattress and maintain the topper well, then it can stick around for approximately a decade. Else, there is no saying how fast you may need to change it. The idea is to keep an eye on the usage and make sure that you don’t miss the wear and tear that may be visible with time. At the end of the day, the sleeping times should be all about the best of comfort, and a good quality mattress topper always ensures the same.
